DCEP Track 2 Community Placement Internship

The following paid internships are a community-directed effort by the UIC Office of Diversity, Equity, and Engagement for students to assist with the Neighborhood Centers Project at Auburn Gresham and Lawndale. The intent is to provide pro-bono consulting services for minority-owned businesses on Chicago’s west side. Interns will get hands-on consulting experience in their field of study and see the impact of their work. Interns will interact directly with clients, assisting them in resolving significant business problems, assisting with implementation, and training the client on how to maintain introduced systems/processes.

Community Consulting Intern – Marketing (Hybrid) Heading link

Qualifications: Candidate should be a Junior or Senior majoring in Marketing.

Responsibilities may include: Perform market analysis and create strategies for generating revenue. Assist clients with advertising and promotional efforts. Research low cost, high impact, marketing trends. Create social media posts and schedules. Track analytics for social media campaigns. Assess web presence – provide recommendations for website (if applicable) and analyze yelp reviews.

Community Consulting Intern – Finance (Hybrid) Heading link

Qualifications: Candidate should be a Junior or Senior majoring in Finance or Accounting

Responsibilities may include: Research best practices for financial record keeping for small businesses. Research grants and loans available to small businesses. Support the creation and implementation of new accounting systems and procedures. Work with general ledger accounts and perform reconciliation of banking activities. Create and analyze operational budgets. Prepare monthly financial reports. Teach clients basic financial management best practices.

Community Consulting Intern – Accounting (Hybrid) Heading link

Qualifications: Candidate should be a Junior or Senior majoring in Accounting or Finance.

Responsibilities may include: Create weekly reporting for accounts receivable and accounts payable. Analyze financial transactions. Perform journal entries and reconciliations. Assist with accounting functions including cash/credit receipts, and payroll. Assist clients in purchasing, setting up, and implementing accounting software. Assist clients with tax preparation.
